Margaret (Meg) Rice, MD

-7“Seniors have a diverse set of medical conditions, so I try to individualize my approach. People can be very different in terms of what they want and what values they regard as most important.”

She began as a general practice physician, but it wasn’t long before Dr. Margaret (Meg) Rice discovered that her real passion was for helping improve the quality of life of seniors with chronic health conditions.

“I realized that seniors were the group I most like caring for, and that I was most interested in the management of chronic health problems that require a lot of oversight – diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and that sort of thing,” says Dr. Rice. “I’ve found you can really have an impact on a person’s quality of life by carefully monitoring and managing these chronic problems.”

The ability to monitor and manage chronic conditions is the primary reason Dr. Rice and the certified nurse practitioners on the Consultative Health and Medicine team are onsite at the assisted living and skilled nursing facilities where their patients reside.

“There are lots of different philosophies in terms of caring for the elderly,” Dr. Rice adds. “I view seniors as a really diverse population of people who have a diverse set of medical conditions, so I try to individualize my approach. People can be very different in terms of what they want and what values they regard as most important.”
